Feed Milling
The Model Mill™ 4.0 Program Measures, Challenges Mill Performance
The Model Mill™ 4.0 is a computer model based on the continuous improvement program utilized by Cargill Animal Nutrition over the past 25 years. Used in all Cargill feed plants, as well as many non-Cargill mills worldwide, it supports management by modeling processes of a feed manufacturing plant, including product quality, economic optimization and operational efficiency.
How it works:
The Model Mill™ 4.0 program is designed to give plant managers the ability to check the operation of their plant against a pre-defined standard, or model plant, and to help them work toward World Class operational efficiency. It does so by using a proven 12-step process.
The program uses a customized format that calculates the expected cost of manufacturing, given the engineering limitations and product mix expectation. This enables comparison of model costs to your actual costs, labor and efficiencies.
Benefits
· Know the capabilities of a plant
· Identify the pant strengths and areas for improvement.
· Use it to plan staffing
· Plan and budget expenses
· Show payback and effects of plant equipment changes prior to the investment
· Can be used to continually challenge and raise the performance bar
· One of the Cargill’s core competencies to managing your business.
· The Model Mill™ program reports allow managers to see the “profile” of their plant in the way it has been configured through the Model Mill™ process windows to generate this information so that it can be easily used in managing your business
Examples:
· Cargill Animal Nutrition’s use of the Model Mill™ program for new acquisitions has produced significant savings per ton
· Customers have realized cost savings from operation, crewing, and overtime efficiencies
· The Cargill Model Mill™ program has been expanded over time to encompass many additional processes. It is now more user-friendly, flexible and adaptable to many types of milling businesses
